Meghan Markle Responds to Trump’s New Tariff Plan — What It Could Mean for Her Brand

Meghan Markle speaks out on Donald Trump’s new global tariffs over possible impact on her brand

Meghan Markle has now expressed her opinion regarding the new worldwide tariffs that Donald Trump has implemented and the potential effects that these tariffs could have on her company.

At 43 years old, the Duchess of Sussex made a stunning debut with her As Ever brand last week (April 2), and the response has been nothing short of overwhelming. Within hours, several of her items sold out, captivating customers around the globe.

Meanwhile, the timing of the launch coincided with the 78-year-old Republican leader’s bold “Liberation Day” declaration, where he unveiled his list of reciprocal tariffs targeting several countries in the United States.

Just five days after the tariff announcement, on Monday, April 7, Meghan sat down for an interview with Fortune, where she weighed in on whether Trump’s controversial economic decisions might affect the success of her As Ever brand.

As Ever offers a curated selection of limited-edition products, including a $28 wildflower honey with honeycomb and $12 herbal teas featuring a blend of hibiscus, peppermint, and lemon ginger.

“In this moment, every single product we offer is being manufactured in the United States,” Meghan shared with Fortune.

The mother-of-two went on to explain, “But as we consider the broader impact of these economic shifts on everyday consumers, I’m truly grateful that one of the core ideas behind this brand was to create products that feel luxurious yet remain accessible and affordable.”

Meghan also shared her thoughts on the possible impact of a recession, fueled by the recent tariff news, on her brand.

“I believe that even during times of recession, people will still seek out little creature comforts—items that bring them joy,” she added.

Currently, As Ever ships to all fifty states across the U.S., with plans to expand internationally in the future.

In a sharp insight, Meghan pointed out, “You’ll notice that the majority of our SKUs are priced under $20.”

Meghan addressed concerns about the pricing of her brand, which offers products ranging from $9 to $28, stating, “This is a response to feedback from some individuals who felt the pricing was a bit steep.”

She continued, “From our perspective, and certainly from mine, even as the brand grows, everything should still feel accessible.”

But As Ever, along with her recently launched Netflix lifestyle series on March 4, are just a few of the projects keeping Meghan busy.

In fact, the first episode of her new podcast, Confessions of a Female Founder, was released just yesterday, on April 8.

“I’m talking about what I’m going through as I’m going through it, not with reflection after some time, not with that different vision you can have when you think about hindsight 20/20,” she explained to the news organisation.

“While it created a very, very tight schedule… it just felt like the right move to do the storytelling justice.”
